1991. the government has passed resolution no. 444/1991 which limits the territory of coal mines by their area.
this includes all the mines in the Most Basin - one of the largest lignite deposits in europe.
it did however not mean the end of the people's worries that their house might get wiped off the earth. countless politicians, with full support of the mining companies, have since 1991 tried to 'breach' the limits - enlarge the area for mining. this would cause whole villages and houses in nearby settlements to be torn down.
thankfully things have calmed down since then, the limits haven't been breached, and the mine CSA has been slowing stopping operation since 2023. a year later it has been announced that mining will end in the nearby future and let go of 500 employees.
the glory of the coal era is nearing it's end.
